  1. When Oedipus tried to get away from his parents, it was to save them from his fate, which was justified. It was not justified however for him to murder Laius. Knowing the prophecy that he would kill his father should have prevented him from killing any men. He should have know that the Gods are tricky, and that not everything is as it seems. If he would have taken this into account, he would not have killed Laius, or any man.

  2. I agree with Kacey. But it also has to be taken into account the culture of the Greek society and not just our culture. It was common, in stories and in life, for fights like that to happen given the incident when Oedipus killed Laius. But, in order for him to not have killed Laius he would've had to have grown up with a different set of values so as not to kill people that displease him. Its possible that if he was brought up with different people that he might not have killed Laius. But also this is most likely due to the Greek culture. On a side note, I feel like the God's are kind of a scape-goat for the wrongs that the people do.
